Basic Persuasive Essay-Whether Children Should Be Homeschooled

What happened?

There are dangers all over the world today, people that love to do wrong to others. In order for people to be aware of the dangers of this world, they must experience what the world is like. People must realize the dangers and know how to deal with them. When children are homeschooled, they are sometimes unaware of the ways of the world. The parent may try to shield their child from their surroundings in order to protect them.

Although it may protect them for a minimal time, how will the child be when he or she grows to be a teenager and faces college peer pressure or leaving home? Will they be prepared?

I do not think it is the wisest decision to keep the child at home in order to protect him. Looking at the environment of the home that a child is homeschooled in is also important to consider.

In an article by Kate Wegmann, Aaron Thompson, and Natasha Bowen, they discuss child behavior as a result of their home environment. They explain the importance of placing a child in a good educational environment. While some children may appreciate the home being their safe place, others may see their house as a trap that they cannot get out of. It may instead cause the child to want to rebel and get away from the house rather than stay in the protection of the parents.

When a child attends school they learn how to deal with issues in the world because they are confronted with them daily. They discover ways to notice trouble or how to get out of situations that may not be good because they have the practice. If children are homeschooled, they do not get the practice they need to be prepared to face the world around them. Another reason parents may choose to homeschool is to protect their child from being bullied.

Bullying is becoming a significant problem in the United States today. There are horrible stories on the news daily about teenagers being bullied for no reason at their school. Again, protecting children is very important, but children and teenagers need to learn to fend for themselves. They must be able to stand up for themselves in times of trouble. The only way they will develop the skills to stand up to bullies is to be around them. Bullies will not only be in elementary and high school.

There are mean people everywhere: When people grow up in the presence of people that are not always kind, they learn how to deal with them. They learn techniques on how to not be bothered by the bully. They learn how to defend themselves in situations that it is necessary. Many homeschoolers are accustomed to doing their school in a variety of venues, such as coffee shops, libraries, cars, and airplanes. Another aspect in which homeschooling is more flexible than traditional school is in that there are many more options for the parents to decide from when making curriculum choices.

The homeschooler can choose whatever level they want in whatever subjects they want, instead of having to follow strict state standards that must be accomplished by the end of the year. The social benefits are also a good reason to homeschool.

Children that go to school all day, every day with dozens of other children of the same age become very peer dependant. They are put under great pressure to conform to the many standards set by their peers, which can cause problems when the viewpoints of the students are not in accord with the truth.

Also, students may not learn to relate to people of all ages if, from the time they are five years old, they spend the majority of every day with children of their own age. Because homeschoolers spend so much more time interacting with family members and other people during the time that most children spend in school, they generally develop much better relationship skills than non-homeschoolers.

In a traditional school situation, the family unit is replaced by the classroom when the child goes off to school. Because the student spends so much time with his or her family, the family tends to remain strongly bonded. Because homeschooling is advantageous academically, organizationally, and socially, I believe children should be homeschooled. Are Homeschooled Students Prepared for the World?
